On a good day, parenting will test the integrity of your character. On a bad day, parenting will test your will to live. Parenting children with trauma histories will cause you to test the integrity of everything and everyone you thought you knew, for the rest of your life.

That is clearly telling everyone that she can play the be nice game when she wants to. If she is anything like my kid she will dwell to get what she wants and then it all falls apart the minute everything is not about her. That is why there is no reward system in our home for her. Good luck with having her at home!

Does Sissy know what she did differently to get a gold star weekend? Is she acutely aware of the things she did that were good and the lack of bad things? I'm wondering if she truly earned the gold star or if she was just having a good weekend in general. Does this accomplishment feel like a random reward and she is clueless about how it happened? I only ask because my son does not seem to actually "work" on his behaviors to earn things, rather he may just have a lack of conflict with others on a particular day (i.e. everything just seems to be the way he likes it thru no effort of his own) and so he truly has nothing to rage about. Maybe he's just extra tired that day and raging is too much work :) Sorry to sound like such a downer - we should all be doing cartwheels here. I just find the timing of this accomplishment - coinciding with her impending discharge - to be a bit fortuitous. After all, it wouldn't look so good for the facility to send a raging kid home to torture her innocent family - but if they can say she had a great weekend, well, that can be used to their advantage big time. Here is to hoping she gets it and decides it's good to be good!
